About Me

Connie Wood has been writing all of her life. Like many storytellers’ stories, myth, legends and magic course through her veins.

I have been writing professionally since my first book was published in 2010.

Fiction, stories and passion are my main love. And to date I have had six fiction books published internationally in multiple formats including print, ebook and audiobook. Currently I have pulled my books back from traditional publication and am delving into the amazing journey of self-publishing and now have e-books and print books available through Amazon.

I write of stories, hope, dreams, love and magic. Romance, paranormal and fantasy are my main fiction go to. Stories are how we tell the truth of our lives, the emotions we may be unable to speak, what our hearts truly desire.

In the non-fiction world I assist people to write their memoirs and their life stories. Every person has a story to tell. Every story helps weave the fabric of our society and history. Even the smallest events can bring an epiphany of clarity and many people wish to share their story for understanding for to help others. This is where I can help people express their truth.

I also edit fiction, non-fiction and some academic writings as well as copywriting for businesses.

My love and passion for writing extends into my coaching career. I am a book coach and focus mainly on helping people conceptualise, write and complete their fiction stories.

Writing is joy, passion, hopes, loss. It’s about putting your heart, soul and truth down on paper, no matter what form that takes.

AI Disclaimer

Currently there is a lot of discussion, both passionately for and against, the use of AI in writing and the creative fields.

I, personally, do not use generative AI in any aspect of my writing. Generative AI has learnt from hundreds of thousands of manuscripts and uses those to mimic writing and the prose process.

There are many people who believe certain aspects of writing in a story points to the use of generative AI within that manuscript. This is not necessarily the case. Please remember, AI has learnt from all of the manuscripts that had been put into its data banks. Therefore there are going to be a cross over in how people write and how AI mimics writing.

For example, I use the writing tool of three a lot in my stories. I like it because it flows nicely, it was something I learnt when learning my craft, and I like the poetry of it. Similarly, I also write fairly formally, rhythmically and also with short sharp sentences.

These aspects in writing have been mimicked by AI, it does not necessarily mean the author has used generative AI in their work.

The AI detectors are currently, notoriously bad at actually detecting generative AI works, once again because that work has been feed to AI data banks on how to learn (mimic) writing, so therefore, the perpetuation of AI continues.

Another reason I do not use generative AI, is because it is not great at mimic writing. For example, I ran a sentence through a generative AI as a writing exercise. The point was to make a character, Cain, silently stand next to the main character.

Here’s an example of what that looks like:

AI version…”Cain didn’t enter so much as appear – like a shadow that had learned to wear a man’s shape.”

My version…”Cain appeared to stand next to him. His stance rigid foretelling a lifetime of discipline. He moved swiftly. Quietly. Deadly. His legend forged in blood and death clouded his grey eyes and kept his grip on the hilt of his sword.”

Writing for me is a human experience. It speaks of spirit, love, loss, pain, deep happiness, fun, laughter, tragedy. So many stories touch a part of ourselves and help us to see the world in a different way, help us know we are not alone, entertain us and give us joy.

This is something generative AI cannot create.

As a digital artist, I use AI in line with industry standards and not as a complete artistic or creative endeavour. Creating, the process, the experience, the learning and putting part of yourself into each creation is the point of the creation.

Art and writing are human, emotional, and creative experiences.

Cheers
